Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) on Saturday suspended lawmaker Sakhi Moshwani's for 10 days, for insulting the Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, Nasir Ahmad Durrani.
Lawmakers in the plenary session of the Wolesi Jirga termed Moshwani's actions an insult to Durrani, and an insult to the house and stressed that lawmakers should not be allowed to misuse their parliamentarian status.

Moshwani in a plenary session of Wolesi Jirga last week assaulted Durrani.

"It is not acceptable. Repetition of such incidents will be bad for Wolesi Jirga as well as government officials," said Mohammad Nazir Ahmadzai, a lawmaker.

Gulalai Noor Safi, another lawmaker, said that perpetrators of such acts should be punished, so that it would be a lesson for others.

"Based on article 72 of internal rules of procedures of the Wolesi Jirga, the house with a majority vote decided to suspend Sakhi Moshwani for 10 days," said Zahir Qadir, the Deputy Speaker of the Wolesi Jirga.

Moshwani meanwhile went to Durrani's house and officially apologized.

The First Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mohammad Khan, who had accompanied Moshwani to Durrani's house said: "Today, we resolved a big problem between the Chief Executive Office and parliament and if the world allows us, Afghans are capable of putting an end to their differences."

Meanwhile Durrani said that based on the respect that he has for Jirgas, he accepted Moshwani's apology.

This is the first time that an MP insulted a minister. Lawmakers however by using their parliamentary immunity have beaten police officers and ordinary people several times in the past.
