Govt Asked To Review Peace Strategy

A number of delegates at a gathering in Kabul on Saturday said that the High Peace Council (HPC) has not achieved much because peace cannot be gained through soft policies aimed at the Taliban.
Organizers of the event said that government doesn't have an inclusive strategy for bringing peace to Afghanistan
.
The gathering was organized by Kabul citizens' council and delegates said that government needs to review its peace strategy.

"Peace can be brought, when we stop pleading with the enemy, because peace cannot be begged. The more we plead, the more arrogant, ruder and more brutal they [the enemies] become," said Sayed Makhdoom Rahin, chairman of the council.

Participants at the gathering said that war in Afghanistan has external reasons.

"In Afghanistan, the hidden foreign hand is playing the main role," said Mohammad Amin Baligh, a member of the council.

"20 to 25 kilometers outside Kabul city a different mindset rules, which is in complete contrast with the one here [in Kabul]," said Abdul Ghafoor Lewal, the Deputy Minister of Border and Tribal Affairs.

Officials at the Ministry of Defense (MoD) meanwhile said that they have plans to suppress militants.

"The militants wanted to cut Kabul-Mazar-e-Sharif Highway and they also destroyed power pylons in Dand-e-Shahabuddin. However, security forces defeated them and pushed them back from the area," said Mohammad Radmanesh, the deputy spokesman for the MoD.

Participants at the event said that peace will not come to Afghanistan, unless foreign supporters of militants force them to come to the negotiation tables.
