Helmand-highway-17-April-2016
Officials of southern Helmand province said that the Lashkargah-Sangin highway has finally re-opened to traffic after being closed for more than a year.
Officials said this comes after concerted efforts on the part of security forces to clear the highway of insurgents.
An operation was launched nearly three months ago in the area to clear insurgents, commander of 215 Military Corp, Mohammad Moeen Faqir said.
More than 12 insurgents were killed during the operation and a number of others were injured, Faqir said.
He said that the security forces also cleared more than 150 roadside mines from the highway.
However, he did not provide further details, or details on casualties among security force members.
